Album Review: MacReady - Empire

LA Trio MacReady are back with their newest album, "Empire", a large departure from their last full length, "Kiba". Of course, much time has passed since "Kiba"'s 2019 release, and that brings with it a completely different approach to the craft. No more are the saturated pinks and blues, no more is the lighthearted fun feeling "Kiba" had rooted underneath it, "Empire" is different. "Empire" is an album that holds anger, rage, and a general distaste towards the status quo. It

Album Review: MacReady - A.D.

L.A. Synth Trio MacReady are back with a brand new EP, titled "A.D.", a really interesting departure from their previous work. "Kiba" was a Synthwave album chock full of charm and humor, one that didn't take itself too seriously for the most part, but did when it needed to. "A.D." is different though, it's a much more intimate project. The Synthwave standard is stripped bare, light synths are used here and there, but "A.D." takes things a quieter, much less 'Synthwave' direct

Los Angeles Trio MacReady are back with a brand new EP, titled "Right On!", an it's a really unique one at that. Heavily influenced by breakbeat and 90's hip-hop, "Right On!" brings something really special to the table, creating a sound that is wholly Synthwave, but also wholly unique. The title track screams SEGA Genesis/Master System (depending on the region you're in), almost as if it was a secret track from Toejam and Earl, just as funky and groovy as it is enjoyable. "R

Album Review: MacReady - Kiba

California based Synthwave duo MacReady come forth with their first full length release, titled "Kiba", and hell what a release to come forth with. "Kiba" is an amazing package of glossy synth tunes, some tracks revel in the glitz and the glamor of light synth, but others aren't afraid to throw a punch or two. With a little something for everyone, MacReady explores a wide variety of sounds on this album, and they are all stellar. Tracks like "Lost In Shibuya" and "Sunset On M

Track Review: MacReady - Sunset on Mt. Fuji (Feat. Watch Out For Snakes)

California Synthwave team MacReady are back with a new single, this time joining forces with Atlanta based Watch Out For Snakes, the (in my opinion) reigning king of Chipsynth, for "Sunset on Mt. Fuji", a somber and low tone track, one full of emotion. MacReady lays the backing with some great sounds, full of slow and beautiful melodies, while Watch Out For Snakes brings the Chiptune in high fashion, helping the two sounds really blend together for something really special.
